San Sebastian Funicular

The famous Igueldo funicular, also known as the San Sebastian funicular, is known for being the most popular way to get to Mount Igueldo, where you’ll find a leisure park where the little ones will have a great time.

The San Sebastian funicular is 312 metres long and is located on the slope of Mount Igueldo, hence its name.

Its famous history, its cheap price and the beautiful views you see on the way up and down have made it a popular tourist attraction for many generations.

Where is the station of Mount Igueldo?

The funicular station is located at the foot of Mount Igueldo, at the beginning of the road to the lighthouse. It leaves every 15 minutes both from the top and from the bottom, so every 15 minutes there is a trip.

It is impossible to visit San Sebastian and leave without taking the famous funicular. The funicular is a fantastic adventure, not only because of its speed, but also because it is very old and you can often hear the creaking of the wood both on the way up and on the way down.

The San Sebastian funicular is one of the ways you can access the Igueldo amusement park. The incredible views you will see if you ride this mythical funicular will truly amaze you.

History of San Sebastian Funicular

The more than 100 years of history of the San Sebastian funicular have made this element visited by many tourists over the years, and the most used way to climb Mount Igueldo.

It all began when, at the beginning of the 20th century, it was decided to create a leisure area on Mount Igueldo. In order to facilitate access to the casino and restaurant at the top, they built a road and the famous funicular railway, which is still used today to visit the mountain.

It is incredible but this funicular is still working with the same equipment as when it was inaugurated.
