Biarritz
San Juan de Luz

Biarritz and French Basque Coast

We Basques can be found on both sides of the Pyrenees, which is why if you want to know all the facets of Basque culture you can’t miss out on visiting our neighbours on the other side of the border.

Less than an hour from San Sebastián we can find Bayonne, the capital of French Basque Country, with its prominent 13th century cathedral and the start of the Camino de Santiago via the Path of the North. Then we will enter the stately Biarritz, with the Casino and the residence of the emperors of France in the 19th century, and we will walk along its promenade to accompany the surfers and stroll through the Old Port.

Finally after a lunch in Biarritz we will arrive at the small Saint Jean de Luz, a fishing village with a history of whalers and pirates, to see the church where King Louis XIV married in 1660.

Do not miss the opportunity to discover all these corners!
