Although Gipuzkoa’s shore is famous, both for its beauty and culture or its gastronomy, as the cantabric sea is grateful. But we should not forget that a big amount of our lands are valleys and mountains, always green and with villages filled with character. Today we will talk about one of the most renowned ones, Oiartzun. From there is one of the best guides not only from Go Local, but from the whole universe, Alain!

Oiartzun is a very extensive municipality. It’s old quarter hoists buildings from the late Middle Ages. The town hall, located in a beautiful square that is perfect to have a bite, has a fronton behind the central columns. There is also a beautiful museum dedicated to the music, with instruments from the Basque Country and the whole world. And don’t get me started on Tártalo, a restaurant where you can order a delicious pizza made with “talos” (the basque tacos).

And there is more! Oiartzun is lucky enough to have Arditurri, a mining spot that has been exploited for more than 2000 years, the fantastic natural park of Peñas de Aya, and it is located in the border with Navarre. If you are feeling adventurous, you can go beyond Oiartzun and visit goizueta (which has an incredible carnival) or Lesaka,, where Olentzero lives!
