As is well known, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A good breakfast gives you energy for the whole morning and gets your day off to a good start. In Donosti, where gastronomy is so important, breakfast is also important, and that is why we bring you the best places to have breakfast in San Sebastian.

Koh Tao

Located in the centre of San Sebastian, just a stone’s throw from the Old Town, Koh Tao is a bar/café where you can have a coffee, a vermouth or a gin and tonic, depending on the time of day. And in the mornings, of course, it’s a perfect place for breakfast. Koh Tao has a small breakfast menu, where its sweet and savoury toasts stand out. They also have pastries and a wide selection of infusions and teas. Also, being in the centre, it’s an ideal place to discover San Sebastian afterwards.

Botanika

In the centre we can also find Botanika , a place named this way because it has a very pleasant garden terrace. Botanika serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as being a great place to have a drink at any time of the day. For breakfast they have toast, eggs, pastries and milkshakes, all homemade and made with local products. With many vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. One of our favourite places for any meal of the day, we recommend it without a doubt.

The Island

Without leaving the centre, but closer to La Concha beach, we can find La Isla . Toasts, bowls, pastries… but also salads and other savoury dishes await us in this restaurant with a terrace that also has a brunch option. That’s why it’s one of the favourite places for weekends, when we can have breakfast with more time and without rushing. In addition, its location just a few metres from La Concha makes it an ideal place to start a day at the beach.

Alabama Coffee

Alabama Café is located in the Gros district, on San Francisco Street, which is perfect if you want to start the day in the trendy district of San Sebastian or later want to go to Zurriola beach. Specialized in healthy food, in Alabama we can find natural juices, smoothies, fruit bowls, yogurt and cereals, sweet and savoury toasts and crepiocas. Everything is made with organic and local products, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. They also have a takeaway option if you prefer to have breakfast looking out to sea.

Simona Specialty Coffee Club

Also in the Gros neighborhood, but very close to the Kursaal, overlooking the Urumea River, we find Simona . Specialists in coffee, they have varieties for all tastes that you can accompany with sweet and savory toast, pastries, bowls and more, and they also have brunch. Of course, as is common in all these places, you can find vegan and vegetarian options, so anyone can have breakfast in an unbeatable location.

Polka

Moving on to the Old Town, we have Polka , a place we know well because it is right next to our office . And although we have never had breakfast here, everything they serve is very good, so we understand that the breakfasts are too. On their menu we find sweet and savoury toasts, bowls and smoothies with vegan and vegetarian options, which we can enjoy on their pleasant terrace all year round, since it is an enclosed terrace. Polka also serves lunch and dinner, which we also recommend.

Maiatza

Finally, what is probably our favourite place, not just for breakfast, Maiatza . Located in the Old Town as well (although in the Centre we can find its sister restaurant Délices Maiatza), Maiatza has toasts, bowls, smoothies and natural juices, eggs prepared in different ways, bagels… In short, everything you could want for a good breakfast or brunch. At Maiatza, they also have vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, and a bar full of sweets and cakes for all tastes. And to top it off, they have a great terrace. A perfect place, really.
