Along the Basque coast there are small coastal towns that you must visit to get to know the culture and essence of this territory much better. Pasajes, and more specifically the Pasajes San Pedro neighborhood, is one of them, with a special history and incredible scenery.
A bit of the history of Pasajes San Pedro
The port of this small neighborhood is located between the Ulia and Jaizkibel mountains, which is why over the years it has been a good shelter for ships that crossed the Cantabrian Sea, even for pirate ships.
In front of it, is another of the famous neighborhoods in the area, in the case of Pasajes San Juan. The reality is that the conflicts over them have lasted for a large part of their history since, on the one hand, they wanted to be independent from San Sebastián, while San Sebastián reaffirmed their ownership. It was not until 1807 when King Carlos IV decided to unite both towns (San Juan and San Pedro) to create the new territory of Pasajes.

Plans that you cannot miss in Pasajes San Pedro
Your current Church on ancient foundations
The current church of the town is a reconstruction carried out during the 18th century, the cause of the destruction of the original church being the numerous conflicts that occurred in the territory. Of the original building, only the door with the main façade remains, which is currently the entrance to the cemetery.
Museums closely linked to the sea
As it is a totally coastal town, most of its activities revolve around this way of life. One of these activities is a visit to two museums.
- Albaola Museum: Pasajes San Pedro houses a great history related to whaling and the production of products derived from it, so in this museum you can discover many curiosities regarding it and witness the construction of a replica of a whaling ship.
- Museo Ecoactivo Mater: It is an old bonito farm that has been converted into a museum and in which numerous activities and excursions are carried out.
La Plata Lighthouse
On one of the large rocks that make up the coastal landscape of San Pedro, is one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the entire north coast. An incredible structure that, while intimate, stands out from its natural enclave. The construction of this lighthouse dates back to 1855.
Its great regatta culture
