Christmas time is over, 2014 is gone and wishes are made to become true for the 2015. For the moment we can say that we started the year with health and happiness.
According with the strong culture of the Basque to mountain hiking, there is a tradition in different parts of the Basque Country to start the year hiking to a certain mountain.
This 1st of January of 2015 we hiked to mountain Adarra, because is the most popular one for the people of San Sebastian and this is what we found the first day of the year; a beautiful weather, great ambience, nice food, good music and perfect a perfect view. Can you distinguish the beach of La Concha at the back in the photograph?
It was a bit cold early in the morning, but once at the top, we could enjoy the sun with the traditional warm soup. Uummmmm! Best wishes for this volunteers that bring this soup to the top.
Adarra is 819 meters high, but there is no limit for this tradition. Starting from the youngest and ending with the oldest, this day is very popular and you can even find people dressed elegant from last night New Year Party that without going home, they go after party straight to the mountain. We also saw people with their mountain bikes, some members of important mountain clubs like Club Vasco de Camping who don’t forget this day and other ones trying to rescue the memories of their lost friends who shared and contributed to this tradition.
What else could we ask for the new year with such a good beginning?
